the master and the perks of being a wallflower

I am very curious about Paul Thomas Anderson's controversial film "The Master." I hope it will be shown here in SG. Joaquin Phoenix, who plays Freddie Quell, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who plays Dodd, the leader of a philosophical movement called "The Cause", are very convincing in their respective roles. It seems like a solidly engrossing and powerfully acted film.

On the lighter-hearted side of things, i've seen "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Of course, the book is better than the on-screen, but seeing Charlie and friends come to life is fun and enjoying to behold.

That awkward moment

... when somebody sends a youtube link of an old interview of random artists in an exhibit
and then suddenly, your own face appears in the middle of it.

*PALM-FACE*
I remember how difficult it was to think of words to say on-the-spot.
Some embarrassments in life immortalized on social media, hahah.

A Clash of Kings

Varys: I’ve always hated the bells. They ring for horror, a dead king, a city under siege.
Tyrion: A wedding.
Varys: Exactly.

Rings a bell? Ah-huh. To cut the story short, the Game of Thrones Season 2 ruined our lives. Boni Compound will never be the same again. I already saw episodes 1 to 7, but for the sake of my friends' sanity (and mine), i went through with them from the start. We started at noon and finished around midnight (snack and peepee breaks included). We continued on the next day for the season finale. Take that, television marathoners!

To Beejay and Sandy.. cheers on waiting for season 3 and our sanity!

salvador dali x walt disney

What happens when two of the world’s geniuses, a surrealist and an animator, collaborate on a short film? A surreal but long-lasting friendship and one of the cinema's oddest but best collaborations of all time.

Destino is unique in that its production originally began in 1945, 58 years before its eventual completion. The project was originally a collaboration between American animator Walt Disney and Spanish Surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, and features music written by Mexican songwriter Armando Dominguez and performed by Dora Luz. Now, 57 years later, a team of Disney animators has finished what Dalí started. The six-minute film, spearheaded by Walt's nephew Roy E. Disney and producer Baker Bloodworth (Dinosaur).

Farewell Maurice

"I'm totally crazy, I know that. I don't say that to be a smart ass, but I know that that's the very essence of what makes my work good. And I know my work is good. Not everybody likes it, that's fine. I don't do it for everybody. Or anybody. I do it because I can't not do it." ~ Maurice Sendak (June 10, 1928 – May 8, 2012)

Farewell Maurice. Here's to a wild rumpus.

drive-in cinemas

I still want to experience a real drive-in film viewing and satisfy the deoxyribonucleic part of me that belongs to a different era.

"Drive-In Movie Theatres" is a black and white series by the Connecticut-based photographer Carl Weese documenting much forgotten relics of 1950s cinema. {source}

carpe diem

Long live the glory of the betamax days! This film will forever seize a special spot in my life.
:)

“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is full of passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”

“So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys - to woo women - and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do.”

—  Dead Poet’s Society (1989)

{clip of one of my fave scenes; and a nostalgic soundtrack)

Carpe Diem. Sieze the day. Make your lives extraordinary.

The Science of Sleep

Above films are what i've seen last week (a good omen that the dark age is over hahah).
*Note: I'd like to watch this film. I hope to see this after the Internationale Filmfestspiele Berline
